Medical Care and our Well-being... Myths and Facts!!

It might surprise you to know that about 60% of our today’s health and well-being has nothing to do with the medical care we receive. It’s directly connected to behavioural, environmental and social factors – everything from access to information, media, public transportation to the availability of healthy food in your neighbourhood, association influence, work-life balance, etc. among many other factors. It is as small as lack of our attention and time given to our kids contributing to their emotional imbalance, to various stresses that we undergo daily that has a direct effect on our hormonal imbalances.

Only about 20% of our health status is attributable to health access to medical care, while another 20% is tied to genetics, which is nothing but an imbedded pattern that we have been following from our parents. This means that lifestyle factors and so-called social determinants have an incredibly important impact on a healthy lifestyle.

At WELLBEEING Integrated Lifestyle Health Center, we are already seeing extremely positive results while treating various long-term lifestyle disorders such as diabetes, hypertension, thyroid, etc. from our focus on people’s health and social/family determinants. It represents the most recent tangible expression of our mission-creating healthier communities and providing quality ageing.

We are attempting success in this growing yet concerned industry with two fundamental objectives:

  • A health care provider – not just a clinic system – but ensure basic human needs are addressed as a standard of care and a personalized approach.
  • Influence the way medicine could be practised for the better quality of life and treat the person as a whole – mind, body and spirit.
  • Create an ecosystem in the community, to support and build awareness and further create a healthful impact for those we serve.

Here’s a couple of good examples of what we mean when we say this program is designed to address the health and wellness concerns of people suffering from chronic disorders or even those who are proactive about their health:

Joseph (name changed) was suffering from bad eyesight. He couldn’t take care of his daily routines and this was the result of prolonged diabetes. He visited  WELLBEEING and met our health experts.  A thorough diagnosis and a detailed examination revealed that one of the major contributions to his stress was a family crisis and is a challenged child. The stress level paved the way to is medical issues which resulted in often eating food outside or skipped meals often. He joined the WELLBEEING 45 Days programme and everything from physical to mental health, he started feeling optimistic and good. His personal and emotional combat that was affecting his health was brought to his awareness, with the severity of its impact and addressed to balance emotionally.

Similarly, another individual with a history of high BP, diabetes and Thyroid couldn’t cope up effectively in many daily challenges in his business. His wife who became familiar with WELLBEEING’s approach influenced him to enrol into the programme.

It seems so simple and so basic. Yet these sorts of non-traditional approaches to health care – helping people live their lives and providing them with the things that so many of us take for granted -- have a huge and lasting impact on our communities. We are very excited about this kind of results and smiles to our patients.

Simply put, this is the future!  "The future of health care lies outside of the traditional limitations of actual conventional premises. It’s the future as we continue to evolve toward a health system that concentrates on well care rather the sick care – and one that focuses on clear outcomes such as higher quality, lower costs, higher value and better overall safety."
